KnowMe Terms of Use
Effective date: November 6, 2026.
These terms are an agreement between you and Freio Labs, LLC (“Freio Labs”, “we”, “us”), the maker of KnowMe. They cover the KnowMe app and this website. By installing or using KnowMe, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.
We’ve tried to write these in plain words. They work together with our Privacy Policy, which says exactly what the app stores and what, if anything, leaves your phone.
The short version
- KnowMe is a private journal. It helps you notice your own patterns. It doesn’t tell you what to do.
- KnowMe is not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it doesn’t replace a doctor, a counselor, or emergency services.
- Your journal lives on your phone. There’s no account. Keeping that data safe, and deciding what happens to it, is up to you.
- Reflect is optional. When you tap it, a short anonymous summary is sent to our proxy and a Meta Llama model writes a letter back. The letter can be wrong. Read it as a reflection, not as advice.
- The app is provided as it is. Our responsibility to you is limited, as described below.
1. Who can use KnowMe
KnowMe is meant for adults, 18 and older. By using it, you confirm that you are at least 18 and able to agree to these terms.
2. Not medical advice, and not for emergencies
KnowMe is a journal for self-reflection. Nothing in the app or on this website, including anything Reflect writes, is medical, psychological or professional advice, and none of it is a diagnosis or a plan of care. KnowMe doesn’t monitor you and can’t respond to an emergency.
- If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, US). In an emergency, call 911.
- For confidential, 24/7 information and referrals, call the SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357.
- If you’re thinking about stopping alcohol or benzodiazepines, talk to a doctor first. Stopping suddenly can be dangerous.
More lines are on our Support page, and in the app under Me, Get support. Decisions about your health are yours to make, ideally with a qualified professional.
3. Your license to use the app
When you buy KnowMe, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, as allowed by the rules of the store you bought it from (for example, Apple’s Usage Rules). You may not copy, resell, rent, or redistribute the app, reverse engineer it except where the law allows it, or use it to break the law. We keep all rights we don’t expressly give you, including the name KnowMe, the gnome, and the app’s design and code.
4. Your journal and your device
Everything you log is stored in a database on your device. We have no account for you and no copy of your journal on our servers. That means:
- You own what you write. We don’t claim any rights in your journal.
- You’re responsible for your device. Use a passcode, keep your phone secure, and remember that anyone who can open your phone may be able to open KnowMe.
- We can’t recover it. KnowMe doesn’t sync or back up your journal. If you delete the app, lose your phone, or reset it, your journal may be gone for good, and we have no way to bring it back. There is no in-app export today.
5. Reflect (optional)
Reflect is the only part of KnowMe that goes online, and only when you tap it.
- When you tap Reflect, the app builds a short anonymous summary on your phone (counts, times of day, intensities, tags, and the reasons you wrote) and sends it over an encrypted connection to our proxy, which asks a Meta Llama model to write a short letter. Your notes are left out unless you turn on “Include my notes” for that one letter. Our Privacy Policy describes this in full.
- The letter is written by an AI model. It can be inaccurate, incomplete, or simply miss the point. It isn’t a person, a coach, a therapist, or a doctor, and it doesn’t know anything beyond the summary it was sent.
- Reflect writes one letter a day; a new one is ready after local midnight. It needs an internet connection and depends on services we don’t fully control, so it may sometimes be slow or unavailable. We may change, limit, or stop Reflect, for example to keep it safe or affordable. The rest of the app works offline and doesn’t depend on it.
- Please don’t try to misuse Reflect: no automated requests, no attempts to get around the daily limit or the safety checks, and no attempts to use the proxy for anything other than the app.
If what you write suggests you may be in crisis, KnowMe shows support lines instead of saving or sending it. That check is a safety net, not a guarantee, and it is not a substitute for reaching out to someone.
6. Price and payment
KnowMe is sold for a one-time price through the Apple App Store (and, when it arrives, Google Play). There’s no subscription. Payment, refunds and receipts are handled by the store under its own terms; we never see your payment details. For a refund from Apple, use reportaproblem.apple.com.
7. Updates and changes to the app
We may update KnowMe to fix problems, improve it, or keep it safe. Some updates may change or remove features. We’ll describe meaningful changes in the release notes. We don’t promise to keep supporting every device or operating system version.
8. No warranty
We work hard to make KnowMe calm, private and reliable, but we can’t promise it will be perfect. To the fullest extent the law allows, KnowMe and this website are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We don’t promise that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that your data will never be lost, or that anything Reflect writes will be accurate or helpful. Some places don’t allow these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Freio Labs and its members, employees and contractors won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, health outcomes, or decisions you make based on the app, arising from your use of KnowMe or this website, even if we were told such damages were possible. Our total liability for any claim relating to KnowMe is limited to the amount you paid for the app. Some places don’t allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law.
10. Apple and Google
If you got KnowMe from the Apple App Store:
- These terms are between you and Freio Labs only, not Apple. Freio Labs, not Apple, is solely responsible for KnowMe and its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for KnowMe.
- If KnowMe doesn’t conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price. To the fullest extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for KnowMe.
- Freio Labs, not Apple, is responsible for any claims about KnowMe, including product liability claims, claims that it doesn’t meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
- If anyone claims KnowMe infringes their intellectual property, Freio Labs, not Apple, is responsible for investigating and handling that claim.
- You confirm that you are not in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as “terrorist supporting”, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You agree to follow any third-party terms that apply when you use KnowMe, such as your wireless carrier’s.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
If you get KnowMe from Google Play, Google’s terms for Play apply alongside these.
11. Ending these terms
You can stop using KnowMe at any time by deleting it; your journal goes with it. If you seriously break these terms, for example by misusing Reflect, we may stop providing Reflect to that install. Sections 4, 8, 9, 12 and 13 still apply after these terms end.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which Freio Labs, LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. If you live somewhere that gives you consumer rights these terms can’t take away, you keep them. If any part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
13. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a meaningful way, we’ll update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect, and describe the change in the app’s release notes. If you keep using KnowMe after that, the new terms apply.
